About

DERU Landscape Architecture is a boutique practice specializing in public, corporate and private landscapes including civic, education, recreation, hospitality, healthcare, and residential environments. By getting to know our clients and their needs, we create landscapes that are made-to-measure for each project’s unique situation. We believe that the best results come from a process that is collaborative and inclusive. Our site considerations take into account a multitude of factors, including social dynamics, placemaking, wayfinding, ecology, horticulture, stormwater management, budget, maintenance capability and aesthetics. From a simple welcoming entrance, to an extension of the dynamics of your organization into the community, we can make it happen.

History

All modern Indo-European languages, including Persian, German, Latin, and English are descended from a single root tongue. In that ancient language the word “DERU” meant tree, strength and truth.

DERU is not a familiar word today, but it is not surprising that for our ancestors the tree was synonymous with virtues like strength and truth. Landscape in its broadest sense is the foundation upon which all things rest, and is a touchstone across cultures and countries. It is a language we all speak, whether we know it or not.

In our landscape architecture practice, we strive to embody the best aspects of that potent symbol, the tree; forever reaching up and out, offering shelter and comfort over the ages.

Landscape Architect Jayme Schwartzberg founded DERU Landscape Architecture, LLC in 2014. DERU is EDGE, SBE and WBE certified.
